FIELD NOTES · ACCEPTANCE EXERCISES

Test consent changes before the next analytics event

A consent banner changing colour does not prove the measurement layer received the choice. Commission a sequence test that records default state, user update and the next event in order. Keep this technical acceptance separate from deciding which legal basis or regional policy the business should adopt.

Who should use this acceptance brief

Businesses commissioning analytics and consent integrations. Use this as a scoped commissioning task for a website supplier. Where system evidence is required, a teaching file is not a substitute.

Source-bound platform fact

Google documents setting defaults before measurement commands and updating consent where the interaction occurs, before navigation. Consent mode does not itself persist the visitor’s choice. Google: consent mode · Checked 16 October 2026.

Filled teaching example

Synthetic example, not a client case. Inputs, expected decisions and counterexamples follow; no live platform integration is claimed.

Run the acceptance exercise

  1. Specify the consent types and approved default policy without using real visitor data.
  2. Record the command timeline and test accept, withdraw and reload in an isolated environment.
  3. Inspect actual tag requests and stored choices; confirm the chosen basic or advanced implementation behaviour.

Interpret the result and retain evidence

The offline model annotates an event with the latest supplied state; it does not send requests or reproduce a consent-management platform. Denied storage does not universally mean no network requests: advanced consent mode may send cookieless pings. Require explicit network evidence instead of claiming a banner blocks all tracking.

Limits before implementation

Not privacy-law advice, a CMP certification or permission to modify existing analytics. Jurisdiction, retention and legal text require separate review.
