FIELD NOTES · ACCEPTANCE EXERCISES

An accordion must preserve access to every section

An equipment supplier may collapse installation notes to reduce page length. The reader still needs to discover each section, operate its heading and reach any links inside. Specify whether multiple sections can stay open and what happens to focus when one closes.

Primary evidence and claim boundaries

The W3C accordion pattern places a button in a heading, exposes expanded state and associates it with its panel. All focusable content remains part of the page’s ordinary Tab sequence when available. Primary reference · Read 18 October 2026.

Practical handover procedure

  1. Choose single-open or multi-open behaviour and record heading levels, control IDs and panel names in the brief. This choice is separate from styling.
  2. Use the supplied four transitions, including a real focusable link inside the second section. A test with plain text alone misses hidden-focus defects.
  3. Test browser search and direct task navigation in the intended implementation, and ensure important buying conditions remain discoverable. Do not assume collapsed content is automatically found.

Interpret the outcome

The record describes reachability, not whether an animation looks smooth. A supplier can satisfy the chosen multi-open rule while failing the hidden-link row. Keeping that distinction exposes a concrete defect instead of approving the whole component from one successful click.

Acceptance decision

Every section heading and available control must be operable and named, with state and visibility aligned. Validate the actual supported assistive-technology path.

Limits and unverified work

Synthetic installation notes, no equipment safety advice and no claim that an accordion improves SEO or guarantees indexing. This is not a full accessibility certification.
