A supplier portal may show Specifications, Delivery and Files in tabs. If loading a panel takes time, moving keyboard focus should not accidentally launch every request. Agree whether arrows only move focus or also activate the panel, then test the chosen contract.
Primary evidence and claim boundaries
W3C APG distinguishes manual activation with Space/Enter from automatic activation on focus. It recommends automatic activation when associated panels appear without noticeable latency. Primary reference · Read 18 October 2026.
Filled acceptance example
Original synthetic teaching scenario, not a client case, provider integration test or business result. The example policy needs the actual owner’s approval; scroll the table on narrow screens.
| Input and state | Declared check | Expected output and decision |
|---|---|---|
| Manual mode: Specifications active | Right Arrow to Delivery | Focus Delivery; Specifications remains selected |
| Delivery focused, not selected | Enter | Delivery selected; corresponding panel shown |
| Delivery active; Files disabled by policy | Tab leaves tablist | Next valid panel control, not every tab in succession |
| Three panels; one selected | Inspect relationships | Exactly one selected tab; labelled panel IDs match |
Practical handover procedure
- Write down manual or automatic activation, initial selected panel and loading/error treatment. Do not mix the two modes between EN and ZH.
- Reproduce the focus-only transition before pressing Enter. Compare the visual panel and selected state with the actual keyboard position.
- Check panel naming, tab order and a failed load with the supplier’s supported browser/assistive-technology combinations. Consider simple headings when tabs add no useful organisation.
Interpret the outcome
The first two rows deliberately produce different states: focused is not selected. This prevents a slow Files panel from opening merely while a user searches for Delivery. A loading spinner cannot establish that the requested content finished or remained available after an error.
Acceptance decision
Accept only if focus movement, selected tab, visible panel and panel name agree with the declared activation mode. Record latency as an observation, not a universal threshold.
Limits and unverified work
A filled supplier test specification, not a shipped tab component or a screen-reader test result. No provider request was made by this record.
