A business portal can accept a report request immediately while a worker produces the file later. Before approving its success screen, agree what the user sees while waiting, how failure is shown and which evidence permits a download. Otherwise customers can be told their report exists when only a queue entry exists.
Source-bound fact
HTTP 202 means accepted for processing, not completed or guaranteed to succeed. Official reference · Checked 17 October 2026.
Filled synthetic acceptance example
Synthetic teaching example, not a client case or a real-platform assessment. On narrow screens, scroll to read the complete table.
| Input | Check basis | Expected |
|---|---|---|
| 202; jobJ17 queued | acceptance only | show waiting; no download |
| J17 succeeded; output checksum recorded | completion evidence | offer authorised download |
| J17 failed; reason retained | terminal failure | explain retry; do not say ready |
Supplier acceptance procedure
- Specify a job identifier and approved status vocabulary before designing the portal notification.
- Test queued, running, succeeded and failed states with one synthetic report request.
- Record completion separately from notification and link authorisation; a ready file must still belong to the requesting user.
Interpret the output
The teaching checker classifies status records; it does not run a queue. A successful HTTP response, an email sent and a downloadable completed file are three different milestones. Require the supplier to demonstrate a failed job and a late status response as well as the happy path.
Explicit limits
No background-job service, live email, access-control implementation or delivery guarantee. A redacted completion record is still required in the actual portal.
Replay the finite teaching model
Save both files in one folder and use Node22 or newer. JSON contains inputs and expected results. The script processes synthetic data only, with no network, credentials, payment or paid API calls. Passing is not evidence that a real integration passed acceptance.
