When a merchant says an overseas customer cannot find a product, do not start by rewriting SEO copy. Commission a market-and-channel publication matrix that separates catalogue membership from inventory and price. This helps scope the integration problem before promising an international launch.
Primary evidence and claim boundaries
Shopify documents that market catalogue inclusion and channel availability both matter. Unavailable market products can return 404; draft orders do not follow the same publishing restriction. Primary reference · Read 17 October 2026.

| Product / context | Publication inputs | Expected check |
|---|---|---|
| P17 / AU online | AU catalogue yes; Online Store yes; stock 8 | Publication eligible; purchase still needs other checks |
| P17 / NZ online | NZ catalogue no; stock 8 | Unpublished market path; do not call this out of stock |
| P18 / AU online | Catalogue yes; channel no | Channel publication gap |
| P17 / draft order | Operator can add item | Not proof that NZ storefront can sell it |
Practical handover procedure
- List actual market, applicable active catalogues and channel for each representative product. Check inherited catalogue membership before interpreting an exclusion.
- Test store search, direct product URL and a permitted checkout in the same market context. Save redacted evidence of context, not only a product screenshot.
- Route publication gaps to the catalogue owner and stock gaps to inventory operations. Recheck feeds or custom storefronts separately; do not infer parity from one channel.
Interpret the outcome
The synthetic stock count 8 is unchanged across the first two rows, yet the publication decision changes. An accurate diagnosis prevents a supplier solving a404 with more stock or a content rewrite. The matrix is deliberately not a complete Shopify eligibility engine; inherited market rules must be read from the real shop.
Acceptance decision
Approve a launch only after each selected market/channel row has a documented result and owner. A draft-order demonstration does not satisfy storefront acceptance.
Limits and unverified work
Synthetic catalogue only. No shop setting changed. Plan, market inheritance, tax, shipping, inventory and payment eligibility are separate; this resource gives no legal market-access advice.
