What an SEO Retainer Should Deliver and How to Check Completion

Direct Answer

An SEO retainer should deliver defined work, inspectable implementation and observations with explicit dates. A ranking screenshot or article count describes only part of the activity. Neither alone proves the contracted task was completed, and neither proves additional sales.

Separate Four Deliverables

Layer Deliverable Client Check
Diagnosis Affected URLs, impact, priority, evidence and recommendation Reproduce the issue and understand its priority
Implementation Agreed change, location and released version Inspect the actual production result
Content Distinct customer task, useful copy, sources and published URL Check what decision the page helps a reader complete
Observation Complete date window, pages, queries and enquiry records Separate completed work from search and commercial changes

The agreement should identify who develops fixes, approves copy, publishes changes and checks forms or CRM records. A diagnosis-only service differs from one that includes implementation. A recommendation awaiting client development must not be reported as a completed fix.

Keep a Work Card for Each Task

Record the issue and URL, agreed action, acceptance method, actual result and next observation date. If a page declares an incorrect canonical URL, the evidence should identify the page, approved destination and released HTML check. A later Google observation is separate. This example illustrates reporting; it is not a MadRaven client result.

For new content, keep demand evidence, its difference from existing pages, publication URLs, language versions and sources. Count measures volume, not usefulness. Google's spam policy addresses scaled content created without additional user value.Google spam policies

Read the Report With the Right Windows

Compare equal complete-day periods and account for weekday composition. Separate branded and non-branded queries, homepages and content pages. With only a handful of clicks, raw counts are more informative than dramatic percentages. GSC average position describes observed search appearances, not a universal ranking across all target queries.

Group unindexed URLs by age and reason. Recently published pages and old pages that have not been fetched need different investigation. A successful sitemap read does not prove every submitted page is indexed.Google Page indexing report

Ask Three Checkable Questions

  1. Which issues were fixed on production this month, and which remain recommendations?
  2. Which new page serves a previously uncovered customer task, and where are its sources and acceptance records?
  3. What records support clicks, consultations and received revenue, and how were internal tests excluded?

Decide From Scope and Evidence

A useful engagement can explain its responsibilities, provide original evidence and acknowledge uncertainty in external search results. A month without a sale does not prove every technical change was pointless. An impression increase does not prove revenue growth. First check whether the agreed work was completed, then assess whether the direction needs to change.

For an SEO scope discussion with MadRaven Lab, bring the website, available GSC access, previous reports, development ownership and enquiry records. Specific tasks, duration and fees depend on the confirmed agreement. There is no promise of first-page rankings, indexing or sales.
