BUYER NOTES · DELIVERY CHOICES

DIY or managed bilingual website delivery?

Choose DIY when you have the skills, accountable reviewers and available time. Evaluate assisted or managed delivery when specific responsibilities are uncovered—not because a builder is inherently bad for search.

Discuss your bilingual delivery scope with MadRaven Lab. Bring a page list, approved language owners and account constraints; do not send credentials.

The choice is who owns the work, not just which editor you buy

A Melbourne service business publishing English and Chinese pages needs a repeatable route from approved facts to a working enquiry. A website builder may already supply the required editor, hosting and multilingual features. A professional can also use that builder. These are overlapping delivery modes, not opposing technologies.

Wix documents multilingual URL options, including subdirectories [W2]. Google describes reciprocal language annotations [G1]. Neither source says that paying an agency automatically makes a bilingual site better. Judge the actual implementation. This guide selects a delivery model; once you are comparing two scoped bids, use our bilingual website quote comparison instead.

Compare the same responsibilities

Decision dimensionDIY / internal teamAssisted or managed delivery
Business fitEvaluate DIY when a capable owner can maintain a small, stable site.Evaluate managed delivery when responsibilities cross people or systems.
Function and designYou configure the editor, templates and supported features.Specify designs, forms and acceptance; custom work is not automatically included.
Data and AI factsAssign an owner to check translated services and AI-assisted copy.Contract the same factual review; a supplier cannot invent your business evidence.
IntegrationsConfirm the actual booking, CRM or email connector and its plan limits.Require a scoped integration demonstration; third-party subscriptions may remain separate.
Implementation / onboardingReserve learning, copy, language QA and testing time.Name deliverables, approver, training, access and rollback responsibilities.
Total cost / priceCount platform, apps, translations, owner time and later exit work.Count delivery quote, recurring hosting/support, translations and excluded work.
Governance / securityKeep the business account owner and least-privilege access documented.Use approved collaborator access; clarify data handling and ownership in writing.
Reliability / operationsPlatform updates do not replace your content and enquiry checks.Ask who checks incidents and restores service; do not assume a support SLA.
Ecosystem / supportVendor documentation and existing team knowledge can be sufficient.Confirm support hours, response terms and access to platform specialists.
LocalizationCheck real language URLs and a competent reviewer in both languages.Agree language ownership and a signed-off EN/ZH acceptance sample.
Migration / exitCheck content export and hosting limits before choosing a platform.Request an asset/account inventory and a quoted exit scope, not just “you own it”.
Search / AI extractabilityUse clear, evidence-backed service descriptions and working URLs.Require the same observable outputs; no delivery model guarantees a recommendation.

Worked example: twelve hours of tasks, six hours available

Synthetic teaching example, not client results or a delivery estimate. Four tasks are estimated by the fictional business: English copy 3h, Chinese review 4h, language-pair QA 2h and enquiry acceptance 3h. The owner has 6h available. The Chinese reviewer is unassigned.

Input / stepObserved outputDecision
Add the four task estimates12 required hoursDo not treat owner time as free or unlimited.
Compare 12h with 6h capacity6h capacity gapReduce scope or add real capacity.
Inspect named ownerszh-review unassignedAssign a competent reviewer; extra hours alone do not fix ownership.
Repeat with 12h and a reviewerstaffing-covered-not-launch-approvedStaffing is covered, not technical or editorial acceptance.

The example gives no automatic vendor winner. An internal reviewer plus six additional available hours can make DIY viable. Targeted assistance can fill a narrow gap; full delivery may fit wider gaps, subject to scope and quote. The hours are planning inputs to replace with your own, not a market benchmark.

Portability, price and what “managed” must not imply

For Wix specifically, the published site relies on Wix hosting; connecting an externally managed domain is a separate matter [W1]. This is a documented platform boundary, not evidence that all builders prevent export. Ask what can actually be exported and rebuilt before committing. Hiring someone to build on the same platform does not remove that boundary.

No transparent same-scope price is established here. Ask for a quote covering the same pages, languages, review rounds, integrations, support period, GST treatment and exit work. Compare recurring platform costs and internal time separately. A cheaper subscription is not a complete project price; a larger project quote is not proof of quality.

Acceptance and exit checklist

  1. Before purchase: list both-language page pairs, integrations, account owner, reviewers and hours. Confirm export limitations in the actual product and plan.
  2. During a pilot: complete one real page pair and an approved enquiry test. Check mobile reading and factual parity, not only screenshots.
  3. Before launch: require signed-off content, working language links, approved forms and recorded ownership. Make changes only within the owner's permission.
  4. During operation and exit: name who checks content and enquiries, retains source/assets and performs any migration. Agree support and exit charges in writing.

Questions buyers ask

Is DIY unsuitable for SEO or AI search?

No. The mode is not a ranking signal. Both paths need useful facts and a working implementation. No builder, agency or this worksheet guarantees indexing, a first-page position or AI recommendations [G2].

Can I keep the builder and buy help only where needed?

Yes, if the provider accepts that scope. Agree the missing task, account role, acceptance proof and handover; do not buy a rebuild merely because a reviewer is missing.

When is MadRaven Lab relevant?

Our published scope covers website design/development and search-related work [M1]. If you need scoped bilingual delivery or a diagnostic, bring the filled task sheet for discussion. This does not promise a platform migration, integration, price or support entitlement before a written agreement.
